Study of Digital Artist three
Alberto Seveso
Introduction
-
I have chosen to study the photographer Alberto Seveso
-
I have chosen them because I really like how they capture things that are very fleeting.

Analysing 1 of their pieces of work:

-
The subject matter of the work to the right depicts (shows) blue and yellow ink that has been poured into water and photographed as it was spreading through the water and as the 2 colours mix together. The viewers eye is lead to the parts where there is some green coming through from the blue and yellow mixing.
-
Any other information about the work that is important? Alberto Seveso uses a fast shutter speed so that he can capture the ink very quickly before it mixes with the water.
-
Seveso has paid particular attention to Compositional Rules in this work, as they have intentionally used rule of thirds where he has placed the subject of the photo directly in the centre and patterns with the patterns of colour and shapes created in the ink.
-
Seveso has also used the Formal Elements of shape and form where there is different shapes created in the ink, negative space around the ink in the water, balance as the subject is directly in the centre, texture with all the different ways that the ink has folded and mixed and it looks very smooth and colour by using two colours and letting them mix into a third colour in the photo.
-
The effect of these visual devices is calming to the viewer because of how well the colours that he used mix together and I think it looks very peaceful and quiet because Seveso has captured a photo that could only be seen in real life by a humans eye for a split second.

Mood:
-
I think the work feels very calming. The artist has created this mood by using colours that mix together well and produce a nice peaceful colour afterwards.
-
The colours used in the work are mixing together in the water to produce a nice green colour

Technical analysis:

-
I think that this work was probably taken using lighting props to make the photos bright and to make the colours stand out more.
-
The artist has used studio lighting that is lit from directly in front of the photo to give the whole photo an overall bright look.
-
Do you think the work has been edited in Photoshop/Premier Pro? I think Seveso has edited the photos in photoshop and I think he has enhanced the colours by changing the brightness, contrast and saturation. he may have also used the spot healing brush tool to get rid of any bubbles in the water or any marks on the glass too.
-
In this work the camera has been focused on the cloud of ink in the centre of the photo as it is very sharp and clear.
-
The artist has used a small aperture to create a shallow Depth of Field. I can tell this because everything in the photo is in focus and really sharp.
-
I can tell that Seveso has also used a fast Shutter Speed because every thing in the photo is really sharp and he had to take a photo really quick to be able to capture it before the ink spread into the water.
-
It would have been best for them to use a big ISO like 1000 to take this work because the photo is very bright.

Intent:
-
From looking at it, I think the work is about distortion in water
-
Researching Seveso’s work, I have found that they made this work because he wanted to capture fleeting moments.

Relate to your own work:
-
How will you be influenced by this artist’s work when planning and taking your own photos? What about their work are you going to try and replicate in your own? I am going to use 2 colours of ink and a fill a glass container with water and drop the ink inside the water. When the ink has been dropped in, I will take lots of photos really fast because I will be using a fast shutter speed and I will need to take a lot of photos so that I have at least 3 good ones.
