My Response to Alberto Seveso's work
My Response Plan
To respond to the work of Alberto Seveso, I intend to take and edit photos in Photoshop
My work will link to my artist because I will also use 2 different colours of ink and I will photograph them while they are spreading through the water.
I will need a glass tub to fill with water and 2 different coloured inks that will mix together nicely because this is what my photographer uses
The equipment I need will be a glass tub, ink and a camera.
Do you need to take your photos/film at a specific location, or with a specific background? I need to take the photos near a ring light or a lighting box so that my photo is very bright like Seveso's photos
I will include the compositional rules and formal elements of rule of thirds because I will make sure the ink in the photo is directly in the centre third of the frame, shape and form with the patterns in the ink, negative space with the water around the ink, texture with the way the ink looks as it is spreading and colour using 2 different colours.
This will link to my theme of growth and decay by showing the way the ink grows as it spreads throughout the water.

My Raw Photographs

My Three Photoshop Edits

To edit my first photo I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and firstly I cropped the photo to make sure that there wasn't as much negative space around the ink and so that you couldn't see the whole glass tank. Then I used the spot healing brush tool to get rid of any bubbles or marks on the glass. Next I used the lasso tool to select an area of the photo that I wanted to be sharper and created a new layer of that area, then I selected soft light so that it wasn't too sharp. Finally I enhanced the brightness, contrast and saturation to make the colours of the ink stand out more.
To edit the second photo I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and firstly I cropped the photo so that you couldn't see the glass tank and there wasn't as much negative space in the photo. Then I used the spot healing brush tool to get rid of any bubbles in the water and marks on the glass. Next I enhanced the brightness, saturation and contrast to enhance the colours of the yellow, blue and green. Finally I selected an area of the photo that I thought needed to be sharper with the lasso tool, in this photo it was the middle of the ink and I created a new layer with that area and I changed it to soft light so that it looked sharper but wasn't too sharp so that it looked unnatural.
For the third photo, I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and firstly I cropped the photo so that it was just focused on the ink in the middle and you couldn't see the glass tank that the ink was in. Then I used the spot healing brush tool to get rid of any unwanted marks or bubbles on the glass. Next I used the lasso tool to select an area that I wanted to be more sharp and focused and created a new layer for that area, then I selected soft light for the new layer to make it a bit sharper. Finally I enhanced the brightness and contrast to make the colours stand out more.
Which edit do you feel has been the most successful and why (link this to your photographers and theme)? I think that my most successful photo is my first photo as the ink is not too spread out and there are lots of interesting folds and patterns in the cloud of ink so I think it looks the most similar to Alberto Seveso's work. I also think it is the most successful photo because the cloud of ink is all in focus and sharp like Seveso's.
