Study of Digital Artist three

Peter Lik

Introduction

  • I have chosen to study the photographer Peter Lik

  • I have chosen them because I really like how they use skyscapes such as sunsets and use bright and vibrant colours in their work

Analysing 1 of their pieces of work:

  • The subject matter of the work to the right depicts a vibrant sunset over a beachfront reflecting bright orange horizon onto the crashing waves. it achieves this vibrant nostalgic scene through the use of reflection in the waves and long exposure to create a fast paced scene with the crashing of the waves

  • Lik has also used the Formal Elements of shape and form as the rigid shape of the clouds reflect the shape of the waves. The effect of these visual devices is the added mood of a more dramatic aesthetic to the image

Mood:

  • I think the work feels dramatic, exhilarating and nostalgic. The artist has created this mood by using vibrant colours, long exposure to add a fast paced tone and a sharp, rigid structure

  • The colours used in the work are contrasting between the dark and  moody waterr to the bright and saturated skies.

Technical analysis:

  • I think that this work was probably taken using a tripod and natural lighting to create a natural effect.

  • The artist has used natural light which cascaded on the mountain highlighting the deep colours of the rock and sharpens its shape.

  • i think the colours have been enhanced in photoshop to add a vibrant, heart-warming mood to the photo, i think its also been cropped and rotated to draw the viewers eyes to the heart in the centre

  • In this work the camera has been focused on the heart shape in the mountain

  • The artist has used a medium aperture to create a Shallow Depth of Field. I can tell this because the light is in the centre part of the photo

  •  it helps draw the viewers eyes to the centre of the photo as that's the only parts where the sunlight is highlighting

  • I can tell that Lik has also used a medium Shutter Speed because they wanted to minimise blur and maximise the sharpness and the focus on the heart shape

  • It would have been best for them to use a medium ISO like 50 to take this work to create a balanced dark to light ratio

Intent:

  • From looking at it, I think the work is about the heart in the centre

  • Researching Lik’s work, I have found that they made this work because they wanted to capture the natural beauty of the natural environment and find rare locations like heart shape in the mountain

  • I think their work is about the natural beauty of the environment we live in

Relate to your own work:

i want to capture the ways Lik uses the natural environment by photographing the natural environment specifically his use of reflections and sunsets Aswell as his architecture photography
