My Final Outcome

In my Final Outcome I have been inspired by Magdiel use of visual effects and colourful gradients which I have also portrayed in my final piece. I also implemented Alberto Seveso's use of rich, vibrant colours of paint and capturing their movement. I have also included Jessica's use of contrasting colours to draw attention to the subject by using the white dress to contrast with red apple and red lipstick. I have done this as it highlights the unique ways that my three artists use colour linking to the distinctive nature of fairytales.

All three of my specialists utilize colours in several ways which presents the uniqueness of pixie stories. Magdiel employments more soaked, vaporwave and pastel colours. Alberto Seveso employments wealthy, dynamic coloured paints in water. Jessica employments comparing colours to form the subject stand out.

The idea behind my final piece is linking to colourism and feminism by having myself as the subject to create a more political image. Growing up I didn’t see many fairy tales representing woman of colour and most of them had the same plot of needing a man to change their life or protect them from danger. Hence by going against these common concepts, I aim to create a more modern outlook on fairy tales where the younger generation feel more represented and empowered.

Editing process:

To edit my animation I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and  I used the magic wand tool to remove the original background of the subject so that I could use a gradient background like Magdiel does. I used the pen tool to make selections on the face and cut them out so that they could be filled with red flowers, adding a whimsical element to the picture as well as engrossing the viewer and compelled them to focus on the subject. I also added text to the sides of the image, which is something Magdiel frequently does in his work as it creates a perfect poster effect.

To implement the compositional rule of contrast, I used calibration to increase the saturation of the reds in the image to increase the contrast with the white dress, which replicates how Jessica uses colour to create contrast in her photographs.I improved the shadows and highlights of the image of the image using the curves layer to enhance the lighting of the image, like Jessica does.

To edit my paint video, I opened it in Premiere Pro and changed the blending mode to overlay to have the paint behind the subject. This captured the seamless movement of paint hence replicating the delicacy of paint which is depicted in Alberto's  work .This is inspired Taylor Swift's lyrical video where she uses floating pink clouds as her background.

I have also reduced the opacity and included pictures of Snow White getting kissed by the Prince from the Disney movie to raise awareness about consent and to also link to the misconception of needing a prince to save you. In addition, I have included a picture of Snow White holding up a sign where she empowers herself  instead of relying on the prince creating a feminist message. I got these from the internet.

I also tried to add  a clip of the seven dwarfs from Snow White walking across at the bottom of the animation so if I had more time I would finish that as it adds to the fantastical side of the fairy.

I have been really pleased with my final piece as I have implemented all of my artist's unique ways of using colour. For example, the contrast between the red apple, red ribbon and red lipstick contrast with the white dress making the viewer focus on the subject linking to Jessica's similar use of colour in her work. I have also implemented  Magdiel's playful editing style by having flowers coming out from the face and also adding a colourful gradient as a background giving the picture  a more joyful and vibrant tone. The seamless movement of the bright green paint is striking and links to Alberto's use of vibrant paints and capturing their movements. The green paint also links to the story's poisonous potion adding a sense of fantasy from the bizarreness of the fictional world connecting to the magical aspect of fairy tales therefore contributing to my theme of strange and fantastical. I have also implemented formal elements of colour and focus to add more focus to the subject to give more significance to the subject. This relates to my theme of strange and fantastical because the unique methods by which I have used colour make the image very unusual and distinctive, attracting the viewer's attention.
