Study of Digital Artist three
Hamid Rastin
Introduction
-
I have chosen to study the photographer Hamid Rastin
-
I have chosen them because I really like howhe uses monochrome filters over cityscape photography.
-
Analysing 1 of their pieces of work:
-
The subject matter of the work to the right depicts (shows) a landscape of buildings taken from afar.
-
Any other information about the work that is important?
-
city landscapes
-
urban areas
-
mountain scapes
-
Rastin has paid particular attention to cities in this work, as they have intentionally used fill the frame to fill the image with buildings then also the clouds on the top half of the photograph.
-
Rastin has also used the formal elements such as tone because the photograph has no colour and is black and white.
-
The effect of these visual devices is to create a "silent" mood and the dark colour and tones give a dull yet calm mood.
-
Mood:
-
I think the work feels tranquil and calm. The artist has created this mood through the tone and colours of the image and the time taken at midday although the time isn't determined we can tell that it was light outside because of the light monochrome colours.
-
The colours used in the work are lowkey lighting.

Technical analysis:

-
I think that this work was probably taken using filters to enhance the saturation of the sunset in the background and a tripod to get a steady still image.
-
The artist has used natural lighting. The image is well lit throughout as the sun is setting within the image.
-
Do you think the work has been edited in Photoshop/Premier Pro? If so, how have they edited it and why? Most photos have probably been enhanced, at least. I think that the photograph has been photoshopped to enhance saturation so that the sunset looks less dull.
-
In this work, the camera has been focused on... the entire image is in focus with it being a high-quality photograph.
-
The artist has used a medium aperture to create a clear focus on the full image. Long Depth of Field. I can tell this because...u can see far into the image without blur.
-
What kind of effect does this have? Where does it draw the viewer's eye (probably to what's in focus, making it the most important element in the work)?] draws your eyes to the tower.
-
I can tell that [Rastin] has also used a fast Shutter Speed because the image is in focus without motion blurring.
-
It would have been best for them to use a big ISO like [1000] to make this work because light would be needed to light up the image.
Intent:
-
From looking at it, I think the work is about landscape pictures of natural colours in the world.
-
Researching Rastin’s work, I have found that they made this work because of the use of photoshop.
-
I think their work is about colour and light within real-life manipulation

Relate to your own work:
-
How will you be influenced by this artist’s work when planning and taking your own photos? What about their work are you going to try and replicate in your own?
-
I am going to take pictures of cityscapes and rural landscapes and interpret this style of photography through photoshop.
