study of digital artist one
Alberto Seveso
Introduction
-
I have chosen to study the photographer Alberto Seveso.
-
I have chosen them because I really like how they use ink to create a pattern and merge of different colours.

Analysing 1 of their pieces of work:

-
The subject matter of the work to the right depicts contrasting colours of light blue and a dark but vibrant pink/red. This draws the viewers eye to the coloured paint, where the warm, neutral background also contributes to the contrast, emphasising the focal colours.
-
Seveso has paid particular attention to Compositional Rules in this work, as they have intentionally used Contrast Between Subject and Background (of tone and colour).
-
Seveso has also used the Formal Elements of Negative Space (the empty space around an object), Focus, Texture, Lines and Colour.
-
The effect of these visual devices is it immediately directs the viewer's eyes to the ink and perfectly captivates the fluid motion of the paint blending with
the water.

Mood:
-
I think the work feels calming & comforting. The artist has created this mood by capturing the different colours of ink slowly & gently blending in with one another.
-
The colours used in the work are very bright and engaging, and compliment each other’s vibrance successfully helping them to stand out and are near each other on the colour wheel. It effectively helps to focus on the striking details of the high-key colours combining.

Technical analysis:

-
I think that this work was probably taken with the use of studio lighting- ring lights and a light box, with a plain white background white in a clean and clear water tank with coloured inks. This equipment is crucial to display the professional effect these images portray, ensuring a well lit and polished finish.
-
The artist has used studio lighting, lit from the sides. Seveso uses soft light as there are no significant shadows present.
-
I think this work has been edited in Photoshop. They have edited it by changing the brightness and contrast of the image to enhance the colours, engrossing the viewer's eye to the vibrancy of the colours.
-
In this work the camera has been focused on the coloured ink.
-
The artist has used a small aperture to create a large Depth of Field. I can tell this because the image is highly focused and it also makes the image brighter, helping engage the reader’s to the subjects elements and outstanding colours.
-
I can tell that Seveso has also used a fast Shutter Speed because they want to reduce the motion blur and sharpen the image as Seveso wants to capture high-speed photographs of the ink.
-
It would have been best for them to use a medium ISO like 3200 to take this work because it prevents grain so that the pictures will be well-lit and the colours and contrast in the images aren’t affected.

Intent:
-
I found that a large collection of Seveso’s woek consisted of fascinating underwater ink pictures Seveso's work. These photographs were captured by high-speed snaps of two ink colours mixing in water. The artist named his collection of mixing two ink colours ‘a due Colori'. I have also found Seveso took these photos because he liked the variety of contrasting colours. Through research, I learned that Seveso had a passion for graphic arts since a young age, which he projected into his collection, creating something new and unique.

Relate to your own work:
-
I will be carry over Seveso’s emphasis of colour im my own work, where I will use bright coloured paint that work will each other well and compliment one another. I intend to capture this and show how they merge and intercept, as the motion of the ink and the colour is what makes the picture so captivating.
