Theme

My portfolio project explores the theme of Strange and Fantastical. Within this theme I have chosen to focus on a very serious topic, which many of us, if not most, have been affected by- beauty standards. Beauty standards are destroying our generation more mad more as time goes by, and new looks and trends are in place, pressuring people to look a certain way (especially adolescents and young adults). This theme comes through in my work as beauty standards are spoken about in the media, but not enough, so I decided to take a stand and speak about them, in the style of news, through a magazine, portraying the troubles victims face.

Artist Responses

I have been influenced by the artists Paola Kudacki and Matthieu Bourel.

Kudacki has inspired my work through the use of her neutral colours as a background, material used on models, and also her influence of work for magazines, such as Vogue, in the past. You can see this by the way I have taken pictures against a neutral background, or edited a nude background behind my subject, who is wearing materials such as coloured plastic, cello-tape, and peculiar makeup. 

Bourel has inspired my work with their use of digital manipulation, and monochromes wirh a hint of colour to create an eerie effect, and drawing over images and you can see this by the way I have successfully  replicated his work through my editing in photoshop and drawing over the face of my model.
