Development Two

My Plan

Within my development I hope to...

1. combine influences from my chosen artists- Alberto Seveso and Magdiel Lopez.

2. make sure my work is about my theme

3. include my own research and ideas

My first try at this is in Development 2. I will create a short film of a hand, with digital manipulation influenced by Magdiel Lopez, holding Aladdin’s Lamp linking to my theme of strange and fantastical, with bright colours to match Aladdin and a blue ink video background, influenced by Alberto Seveso, to represent the genie.

The music I will use is the instrumental of Arabian Nights, from the live action Aladdin (2019) Soundtrack to match the magical film and my fantastical theme.

Taking my Photos/Footage

In this Photo I intend to take a picture of a person's hand holding a golden lamp to represent the magic lamp from Aladdin.

For my Filmshoot, I will use blue paints flowing in a water tank so I can edit it, and the green will be the representation of the genie from Aladdin, coming out of the lamp.

I will need blue paint, a clear water box and a box light. I will also need a plain black background. I will use a thick piece of white paper so that my camera only focuses on the ink and nothing else.

The equipment I need will be DSLR Camera set up on a tripod to get close up by zooming in and to change the camera setting like the shutter speed and ISO setting. I will use Studio Lighting so that picture and video is well lit.

I will include the compositional rules of contrast Between Subject and Background and the Formal Elements of Focus, Texture and Colour.

My Outcome

Review

I think my second development is effective as i have included Seveso’s work by using a video of paint floating in a water tank for the background, demonstrating texture replicatimg his work. My photo had a blue gradient on it, which added to the blue paint which conveyed the message of my theme as my work had been inspired by the tale of Aladdin, and the flowing paint represents the genie being freed out of its lamp, linking to South Asian women being freed from their oppression and gaining their rights.

In addition, I have successfully edited in Photoshop by increasing the use of colour and shapes to increase the liveliness and cher of the image, using saturated and pastel tones which are commonly used in Magdiel’s work. This relates to my theme of strange and fantastical because the the use of colour and manipulation of the hand cut outs add a quirky but strange element to the piece, implementing Lopez’s playful editing style and drawing the viewer’s attention.

To edit my photo of the hand, I opened it in Adobe Photoshop I used the magic wand tool to remove the original background of the subject to apply a gradient background that adds colour and more of an unusual aspect to the image. Then I used the eclipse tool to create eclipses at different parts of the hand which was then filled it with purple gradient colour using the gradient fill tool. I have demonstrated the formal element of colour because the vibrant purple of the ellipses makes the picture colourful that makes a bold statement and creates contrast with the hand and the lamp hence directing the viewer's attention to the subject. I also added text to the sides of the image is something Magdiel usually uses in his pieces, and it perfectly creates a poster effect.

I then dragged this file into Premiere Pro, then dragged my video of ink into it too, then dragged both in the timeline, and resized and zoomed in on the video. I removed the sound from the video then I changed the blending mode to how I preferred, and then went back to photoshop, removed the background gradient on the image then dragged this file on top of the file in premiere pro, which defined the subject more, and allowed a clear view and image of it. I then downloaded my mp4 and dragged it into Premiere Pro and unlinked it from the video and deleted the video, and saved only the sound, then i adjusted all the lengths of the videos and sound and pictures so that they all matched up together.
