Study of Digital Artist Two
Magdiel Lopez
Introduction
-
For my second artists sudy I have chosen to look at Cuban photographer Magdiel Lopez
-
I have chosen him as I love how he portrayes he tells a story through his work using a plethora of editing techniques as well as text.
Analysing 1 of their pieces of work:
-
The subject matter in the photo is the woman.
-
Lopez has paid particular attention to Compositional Rules in this work, as he has intentially used framing through the use of the circle ring around her head as well as centre eye dominant as her right eye has been positioned to be at the front of the piece.
-
Lopez has also used the Formal Elements of colour exemplified through the gradiating background. Futhermore the placement of the text creates a sense of symmetry throughout the piece.
-
The effect that these visual devices have is that they provide a greater level of detail in the photograph and we can see the stages that made it come together.
Mood:
-
I think the work creates a sense of motivation and inspiration as the bright colours and futuristic look to the piece creates forward thinking ideas in my mind.

Technical analysis:
-
Due to the layers of shapes, patterns and other editing techniques is harder to tell what lighting this photographer uses. For buildings Lopez would primarily use natural light but when he takes portraits in his photos he will use a range of studio lighting.
-
These photos are heavily made up of photoshop editing. Creating masks around the subjects to change the background, adding gradients, new objects, shapes, lines, text and more.
-
I think that the artist would use a quick shutter speed as light trails aren't needed but for portraits specific positioning and facial expression will need to be captured quickly otherwise the moment might be missed.
-
It would have been best for them to use a small ISO otherwise the photo would have been very grainy.
Intent:
-
From looking at it, I think the work Lopez's work is about encoporrating a range of themes and ideas using colour and text and different shapes and objects in order to create piece of work that can tell a story.
-
Researching Lopez's work, I have found that he wants to do exactly that. During his upbringing Lopez was surrounded by colourful culture which he says inspires his work today as he hopes he can portray some essential ideas
My Own Work
In terms of my own work I have chosen to study this artist as I would love to develop ways of including my theme in my work as I think this is something he does well. As well as this Magdiel Lopez is the perfect artist to help me develop my editing skills as well as thinking outside the box for new ideas.
