Development One
My Plan
Within my development I hope to...
1. combine influences from each of my 3 chosen artists
2. make sure my work is about my theme
3. include my own research and ideas
My first try at this is in Development 1 where I will create a series of three edited photos.
Taking my Photos
In this Photoshoot I intend to take photos of my model wearing an adornment , in which I constructed myself, and have some coloured gels being shone on her. I will do this in order to incorporate my 2 chosen artists- Lindsay Adler and Laura Estrada. The coloured gels will have relation to the phenomenon of colour psychology and how the effect of colour can alter the atmosphere of the photograph.
I will use a DSLR camera and a ring light with coloured gels. I have chosen these because my artist, Lindsay Adler incorporates different coloured lighting.
I will need to take my photos in the studio booth with a black backdrop to ensure the lighting is reflected onto my model.
When I am capturing my photos, I will utilise the formal elements of colour and the compositional rules of contrast as the colours should compliment but contrast each other.

My Outcome

To edit my photo of my model I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and I cropped it down to eliminate some of the negative space. I then adjusted the brightness to lighten the image, I then lowered the contrast to -50 to make the red and magenta hues pop out more. Afterwards, I altered the vibrance to further enhance the image. I then changed the hue and saturation and the overall colour balance of the image to make the appearance of the colours more apparent.
To edit my second image, I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and adjusted the brightness and contrast at opposing ends of the scales to accentuate the colours of the image. I then used the Clone Stamp tool in order to remove a piece in which I did not want in the image. Afterwards, I altered the hue and saturation to really bring out the mellow blue and passionate red tones, which are analogous colours, which make up the purple which I was after. I then changed the vibrance in order to boost any muted colours in my photograph. To finish, I adjusted the contrast again so the colours blended well with each other.
To edit my photo of my final image I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and cropped it down to get rid of any negative space. I then modified the brightness and contrast to enhance the cyan blue tones of the image. Moreover, I adjusted the hues in the colour balance in order to highlight the blue undertones further. I then eliminated some more negative space and removed the irrelevant space surrounding my model .
Review
How has it gone?
I think it has gone very well, I did a photoshoot using inspiration from Lindsay Adler and Laura Estrada
What are you pleased about?
I'm pleased with the way the coloured gels reflected quite strongly onto my model, also, I am pleased with my editing of my photographs.
In my next Development
To make my next development work even better I need to: incorporate my other artist, Sophie Calle
Keep doing: Portraiture photography
Do less of: Not exploring my creative talent (find a way to explore it further)
Do more of: Using the formal elements
