Development Two

My Plan

Within my development I hope to...

1. combine influences from each of my 2 chosen artists

2. make sure my work is about my theme

3. include my own research and ideas

My first try at this is in Development 2.  I will create a series of three edited photos.

Taking my Photos

In this Photo I intend to take photographs in the style of my chosen artists, Laura Estrada and Sophie Calle.

I will need my model to be wearing adornments, in which I assembled myself, and be wearing dark clothing in order for the projected text to appear clearly. This is because my artists incorporate these elements.

I will need a DSLR camera and a projector to enable me to project some text onto my model.

I will need to take my photographs in the studio booth with a plain white background.

I will take into account the formal elements and compositional rules of contrast, focus and shape and form. This is to highlight the specific attributes of my chosen photographers.

To edit my photo of my first photo I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and cropped it down to eliminate negative space. I then lowered the brightness and contrast to match my chosen artist. I increased the saturation and vibrance in order to make the image feel more alive and vivid.

To edit my photo of my second photograph I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and I initially cropped it so the top of the projector would be out of view. I then increased the brightness and decreased the contrast to fit the aesthetic of my photographer, Sophie Calle. I then cropped the negative space that I did not want in my photograph and centralised the model in a specific way.

To edit my final photo I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and cropped it accordingly to centre. I then increased the saturation to bring out the colours of my model and her makeup. I then altered the brightness and contrast to brighten the image. Then, I cropped the image further to eliminate any negative space.

Review

How has it gone?

I think it has gone well, I have combined Laura Estrada and Sophie Calle.

What are you pleased about?

I am pleased with the way my images turned out and how the projected text voices my key theme of home and identity.

In my next Development

To make my next development work even better I need to: incorporate my other artist, Lindsay Adler.

Keep doing: Portraiture photography

Do less of:  Not exploring my creative talent (find a way to explore it further)

Do more of: Using the compositional rules.
