My Response to Ansel Adam's work
My Response Plan
To respond to the work of Adams, I intend to take photos and possibly edit them in photoshop.
My work will link to my artist because I will also take photos of landscapes use a large aperture and fast shutter speed.
I will need naturally occurring landscapes that vary and are quite big.
The equipment I need will be a camera, maybe a tripod, natural lighting it will need to be quite bright. I will need these so I can an actual photo, have a clear non-blurry image. And light so that you can physically see what is in the photo.
I need to take these photos in some rural area where not lots of people live, somewhere very mountainous and large.
I will include the compositional rules and formal elements of Texture, Depth and Shape and Form.
This will link to my theme by the landscapes being very big and hopefully fitting with the theme because it may look surreal and daunting.

My Three Photoshopped Photos

To edit my first photo I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and cropped it so it would fit the best size then adjusted the brightness of the photos and contrasted the colour of them. So when I shifted it to black and white the different shades would still be distinguishable. I then used the curves to change the vibrancy of each area of the image. I also used the setting Levels which helped me get the right grey areas the right shade. I used these tools to try and make it as close to Ansel Adams' photos.
To edit the second photo I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and cropped it to fit the preferred frame size and tried to use the rule of thirds to make the viewer notice the sign post a bit more. I then increased the brightness and lowered the contrast a bit I then used the tool levels to change some of the shades in some areas of the photo. I then changed it to black and white to fit Ansel Adams style.
For the third photo, I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and cropped it to the correct frame, then immediately adjusted the brightness as it was incredibly low in the original. Then increased the contrast. Then adjusted the contrast again but the individual colours using the selective colour tool. I finally then changed it into black and white.
I think that the waterfall edit was most successful because it looks the most similar to Ansel Adams photos and it links to my theme of 'strange and fantastical'.
I think that the waterfall edit (first photo) was the most successful because it looks the most similar to Ansel Adams photos and it does have a untouched kind of feel whereas the other ones do have visible human factors. It also links to my theme of 'strange and fantastical' through the massive landscapes and waterfalls. Unfortunately smoke interfered and didn't allow the entire horizon to be visible, this does kind of link as global warming etc are changing these surreal environments.
