Development Three

My Plan

Within my development I hope to...

1. combine influences from each of my 3 chosen artists

2. make sure my work is about my theme

3. include my own research and ideas

My first try at this is in Development 2 I will attempt to create a series of three photos, which will include my three photographers. A various mix of Suzanne Saroff, Ansel Adams and Victoria Siemer. Attempting to create a strange and fantastical feel to the photos, using Photoshop to achieve this.

Within my development I hope to...

Taking my Photos/Footage

In these photos I intend to create a 'Strange and Fantastical' scene by using my photos and photoshopping them to look unusual. Editing some images into the glass balls of my Suzanne Saroff responses, making them look like the image is inside. Also doing the same thing with my Ansel Adams photos into the Suzanne Saroff glasses and glass balls.

I do not need any models. I will need the refracted fruit images from my response to Suzanne Saroff, I will also need the response images to Ansel Adams and some of my Victoria Siemer images. I have chosen these images because it is the best way to portray multiple artists at once while still linking to my theme.

I will need the photos, access to photoshop. I have chosen these because the photos have already been taken and photoshop is the easiest and quickest way to edit them together.

The photos that I am using have used a light box and white backdrop (Suzanne Saroff images) and wide landscapes like mountains so the location is somewhere mountainous (Ansel Adams images).

I am using the compositional rules of filling the frame, symmetry, and rule of thirds. The formal elements I intend to use are colour to try and contrast the colour changes, shape and form to imitate other shapes. Using this all to create a 'Strange and Fantastical' appearance.

In this photoshoot I intend to take the appropriate photos for this development and make the final product, whilst linking it to my theme of 'Strange and Fantastical'.

My Outcome

To edit my first image of the fruit and landscapes, I opened the base photo which is the fruit one, and then opened the landscape ones as well. I then used the circular marquee tool to draw a circle, I copied and pasted it into both of the circles into the fruit image. I then lined them up to fit into the circle of the glass balls. To make them look more realistic I used the brush tool around the edges to soften them and blend it into the edges of the glass ball and used the blur tool to make the edges have an even smoother transition. Then I changed the opacity so that the fruit in the background can still be visible and finally I added a colour filter to help with the 'realness' of the photo.

To edit my second photo I used three images as well, opening them and using the fruit image as the base one. I used the circular marquee tool in the exact same way as the previous image. selecting it then pasting it onto the fruit image. Then using the brush tool, blur tool and adjusting the opacity to make it visible. But then for the glass I used the select tool to draw out the general shape of the glass onto the other landscape image. Then I pasted it onto the fruit image and used the brush tool to cut the edges and make them follow the outline of the glass and allow some of the refraction of the glass to be visible through. Then I changed the opacity so that the fruit was still visible.

To edit my final photo I opened both the images I was using in Adobe Photoshop, and adjusted them to appropriate sizes. Then I used the circular marquee tool to select a circle in the landscape image. Which I then selected and pasted into the fruit image, and then changed the opacity to allow the fruit to still be visible. Then to get rid of the edges on the landscape layer I used the brush tool tool soften the edges and make it appear more realistic, just like the previous.

Review

How has it gone?

I think it has gone well, the images I used are pretty good and all include one of my artists in some way or another and I think it does convey my theme, 'Strange and Fantastical'.

What are you pleased about?

I am pleased with the photos I took in order to make the final product and am pleased with the photoshopping process I used.

In my next Development

To make my next development work even better I need to:

Keep including my theme, my ideas and the artists inputs. Using new material (new photos) and coming up with new ways and ideas to put the artists together.

Keep doing:

Taking and using good photos, using photoshop in the right way, so that my theme is shown through the developments.

Do less of:

Depending on previously taken photos and reused photos.

Do more of:

Including my theme and ideas, making the final outcome better and more inclusive of all the artists and ideas.
