Study of Digital Artist Three

Gal Shir

Introduction

  • I have chosen to study the  digital artist Gal Shir.

  • I have chosen them because I love how they create the float effect in their work.

Analysing 1 of their pieces of work:

  • The subject matter of the work to the right is the swan.

  • Shir has also used the Formal Elements of colour, shape, texture and negative space

  • The effect of using these creates a 3D layered effect.

  • Rather than use photography Shir uses digital illustrations however when I come to creating my artists copies I will take photographs and then apply the float effect in order to create a similar style of work.

Mood:

  • I think the work feels calm as the float software Shir uses creates slow sircular movements of the layers.

  • The colours used in the work are fairly neutral which adds to the calming mood in the image.

Artist research and my response plan:

Before researching his work, I believed Gal Shir’s work was about capturing something in a piece of art and then bringing to life by adding the float effect. When researching his work and his software I learnt that Gal Shir’s aim is to create art that can inspire other to try . Whether that be using his brush tools in procreate, and learning how to use digital art, or use their own images or illustrations and apply the float tool to bring them to life.

In order to respond to Shir’s work I will take photos and edit photos using photoshop and then use Shir’s own float software to bring them to light. In order to take the photos I will use a DSLR camera as well as studio lighting. I will use the composition rules and formal elements  of shape, colour and negative space.

My response to his work will link to my theme as I will use different emojis above Luke’s head to symbolise the range of emotions we can feels dependent of what we see online.
