Development Two:
My Plan
Within my development I hope to create another piece of work that shows off a combination of all three of my artists in which will hopefully create a beautiful piece of work.
1. Integrate the three visual aspects of my artists into a nice development.
2. Keep my work related to my theme of movement.
3. Look into each of my artists and combine their different aspects into one.
My first try at this is in Development 2. I will create a video which will contain a person looking directly at the camera, in which I hope to sperate parts of their face out in the style of Magdiel Lopez, with parts of their face being replaced by a flower that is concealed in ice. It will then have a video of black and white paint being poured into the tub which replicates the visual style of Mark Mawson's work. I will then edit this video in both Photoshop and Premiere Pro to create a video that contains the style of all three of my chosen artists. I will use the video of the paint in the water as an overlay on top of the image, to give off the effect of the person being submerged within it.
Taking my Photos
In this Photo/Film, I will have a model stand in front of a black background, with a ring light displaying vibrant rays of light onto him, creating shadow. I have chosen this person as my model because he is also doing the same type of them which benefits us both as I will subsequently have pictures taken of me. I have chosen a black background as well, because it gives of a nice, vibrant light onto the model, which will give him more shadows in some places, due to the ring light, which enhances the image produced. For this shoot, I will require a DSLR camera to take the portrait of the model, a ring light so that there is light being emitted off of the model onto the background which will help to produce shadows in certain areas of the model. I have had my model take the photo indoors with lights off, as it prevents sunlight from entering the shot and also means that I can control the emitted light coming through the ring light. I will be using the compositional rule of symmetry when taking this photograph as I will have my subject (model) standing in the middle of the frame, equidistant to both sides.

My Outcome

To edit my photo of my model, in the style of Mark Mawson, Magidel Lopez and Bruce Boyd, I opened it in Adobe Photoshop and:
-
Used the spot healing tool to discard any unwanted blemishes on the models face, so they appear with nice, smooth and clear skin.
-
I also used the adjustment option under images to bring out a more colourful look to the overall image.
-
I then used the lasso tool to help cut the model out of the background, in which I used the layer mask to further separate the two.
-
Changing the colour of the background to a vibrant red, I could then erase any unwanted bits that had come through the layer mask, along with cleaning up the model, to make them look smoother.
-
I used the camera raw filter to bring out natural vibrancy and to further enhance the overall look of the image.
-
To add to the artistic effect of Magdiel Lopez, I decided to split the model's head into different segments in which I would fill the previously hidden holes, with saturated colours. I would keep repeating this process until I incorporated the work of another one of my chosen artists.
-
I then used a picture of a flower frozen in ice in the style of Bruce Boyd, in which I edited out a part of my model, replacing it with the ice. This is similar to effects that Magdiel Lopez uses in his work.
-
The burn tool allowed me to darken certain areas in order to add more contrast within the image.
-
I then used the rectangle tool along with the gradient tool to produce a black and white mix for the background, similar to Magdiel Lopez' style. I also used the gradient tool for the main background, behind the model.
-
I then decided to change the orange circles to a turquoise-based colour, which made the image look better and to also add some vibrancy into it.
-
Before adding the final steps, I had initially added some extra bits into the background to match Magdiel Lopez' style, by adding my name on the side, a number in the top corner, text put around the image, patterns along with a orange line which along with the turquoise in the subject helps bring more vibrancy to the image.
-
I then added in a picture of paint being squirted into water to add in the style of Mark Mawson, by cropping it out very carefully, in which I had then used the camera raw filter again to turn the image of the paint into black and white, in order to fit the aesthetic of the image, which lead to my finished development.
Review
How has it gone?
Overall, I am much more impressed with my second development than my first. I felt as if my editing skills have gotten better as I did my second development.
What are you pleased about?
I am pleased with how I have managed to create better effects than my first development, and managed to implement key elements of all three of my artists.
In my next Development
To make my next development work even better I need to:
Keep doing: Adding in the parts of Mark Mawson's work into my own.
Do less of: A bit less of the Magdiel Lopez editing in both the foreground and the background
Do more of: Implement more of Bruce Boyd's work into my own to balance out the work of each three artists.
