My Response
Analysis:

Although Anna's most famous and detailed piece is her 'Stirring the

swarm' (2012), she has many other pieces that could both mirror

and contrast the ideas she's trying to convey. For example all of her

ceramic pieces are made with the intention of rekindling a childlike

sense of curiosity and delight. In Anna's Stirring the swarm, she

encourages the idea of seeing beauty in something stereotypically

ugly. Some of the insects have a trickle of gold lustre, which

references the traditional technique of presenting insects in

museum collections by pinning each one to a board, along with

Anna's fascination for historic houses. In comparison, Anna has

also made some ceramic sculptures/drawings of what seem to be

Victorian noble women, each carefully hand drawn onto the dried

clay. Just as in her Stirring the swarm, Anna has used gold detailing

to draw the faces and body of the women, which shows a

continuation of similar design and intention behind her different

pieces.
