My Final Pieces:

double exposure - muhammed faread.png

The first piece (on the left) was inspired by Dan Mountford and the second piece (on the right) was inspired by Muhammed Faread. I used Adobe Photoshop to edit both image using the quick selection tool (to cut out the portrait), various mask layers and different opacities.

filmography

Film Proposal:

Main idea - Growth and time

       plants

   avocado plant

( I already grew one in water, from an avocado stone, during the first lockdown of the coronavirus pandemic) - watering it and taking care of it allowed by mind to relax and expand while the plant grew

Growing roots reflects bundled network like the brain and the mind

sub theme - time to reflect/ get in tune with yourself as being part nature

For growth, water and time are required

Searched quotes on water - Leonardo Da Vinci

Da Vinci's work focuses a lot on humans and nature - his quotes on water and time allow us to contemplate

Final title - Avocado: Time in flow

I want the film to be a meditative opportunity for those of all ages to reflect upon nature and time, as well as our inward and outward growth as humans.

My Raw Footage:

Here is a short, stop motion clip I made of an avocado seed being 'born' as it emerges from the flesh of the avocado.  I wanted to try and subtly portray the avocado as if it was 'giving birth' to the seed in a mammalian way. This was to reinforce the relationship humans have with plants as part of nature. The stop motion approach allowed me to show this motion of the avocado seed being pushed out - almost like a baby being pushed out of a human mother - in a meditative, less graphic and more gentle way. Later in the film, I wanted to hint the original idea of the growing seed symbolising the growth of mind, so to have this as the opening for the film felt appropriate.

Here is a slow motion clip of water being poured into a glass bottle. It shows my hand picking up the avocado seed and placing it on top of the rim of the bottle. With this clip, I wanted to emphasise how plants and humans have the ability to rely on each other for help, and how water holds an important value for growth. It also echoes how time is needed for the growth of the mind.

This clip was the main body of the final film and I used it to create a zone of deep reflection for the viewers to step into. For them to do this, I made sure the explorative music was in harmony with the visual motions of the clip. This set the scene to present some brief, yet meaningful quotes about water and time from Leonardo Da Vinci.
