Year 10 GCSE Photography Resources
Aperture:
The bigger the hole, the more light comes in.

Aperture is measured in F.Stops.

Bigger the F.Stop number, smaller the hole in the camera lens.
Shutter Speed:
SS is measured in fractions of a second, so 1/8 is one eighth of a second, and quite slow, but 1/1000 is very fast.

Slower Shutter Speeds may have camera shake, or motion blur. Faster Shutter Speed’s will be crisp, still images.

Include why we look through the viewfinder, and don’t use Live view (unless we have a tripod) – slows down the Shutter Speed, makes your photos blurry.
ISO:
Is the camera’s sensitivity to light. On an old camera this would have been the rating of your film strip.

Higher the number the brighter but more grainy a photo is – grain is good for creating a vintage look, but undesirable otherwise.
When shooting at night you want to use a higher ISO to make the camera more sensitive to light, so everything doesn’t come out dark.
