PHOTOGRAPHER 1 RESPONSE
For my first photoshoot, I wanted to respond to the work of Martin Parr, photographing things at home and around where I live, trying to include landscapes and objects that I feel are fundamentally linked to Britishness; like chips, Battenburg cake, the Queen's horses, flint walling, the iconic red phonebox, teapots, footpath signs, the British landscape, the beach, British wildlife, stained glass, swans and canals. I chose these things because they feel familiar, English and nostalgic.
To edit my photo of chips I opened it in Photoshop and cropped it so that the focal point of the work was the chips themselves and so that I didn't have as much negative space. I then increased the saturation and vibrance to bring out the yellows in the chips and the colours in the burger, Martin Parr style. I increased the brightness and contrast of the image as well to replicate the look of it being taken with a flash. I then added noise to give it a grainy, film-like look to make it feel more nostalgic.
To edit the teapot photo I cropped it so that the teapot was centralised and I increased the vibrance and saturation to make the colours bolder, like Parr's.
For the Footpath photo, I cropped it so that the sign was in the top Third so that the viewer's eye was led to it. I then increased the saturation to emphasise the colours and added grain.
